SAM SHAN

I grew up with my grandmother in a small village in Burma.  She was a seamstress and taught me how to sew.  Now as an adult, I am living with my two dogs, Sunny and Charlie, and my family in the redwood forest near the Mendocino Coast.

I am a children’s wear designer because I love the energy and happiness that children bring.   I want to encourage their curiosity of life and things around them.  I take my inspiration from colors and patterns that I find in nature.  Children are naturally drawn to nature including in their own art. I believe children’s art is very unique because they see things differently than adults.  I love to create prints and textiles that inspire them.

After becoming a pet owner, I soon began expanding my creative ideas for pet accessories.   I could easily see the children and their pets having adventures together.  I began to create more art with pets and other animals in mind.

My work takes classical elements and creates functional designs for children and their pets.
